The Waitlist; Pros and Cons & How to Actually Use It

The Waitlist Pros and Cons & How to Actually Use It

Ah, the Waitlist. While some love it, others don't. I'm in the middle. The list is mostly used because a client is looking for a last minute appointment, to get seen in the next day or 2 or they want a hard to get appointment day & time.

Here are the pros and cons of the waitlist.

Pros:

  • Provider gets notified that someone is waiting for that spot that just opened up. Instead of the provider going through her mind thinking of people to take that spot, the list does it for her.

  • Client potentially gets a hard to get appointment or is seen sooner than their scheduled appointment.

Cons:

  • Hard to get appointment times rarely open up, hence the name "hard to get".

  • Clients don't schedule an appointment securing a spot while they hope to get the sooner appointment should it open up. People don't know how to "properly" utilize the list.

  • The provider doesn't "hold" future appointment spots for waitlisted clients. Appointments are scheduled first come first served.

To properly utilize the Waitlist, add yourself to the list for a filled day/time and then also schedule out. That way you have secured a date/time that does work best for you in the likely event that a sooner appointment doesn't open up.

Saturdays are the most popular and quickest booked days on my schedule and they book out months in advance. I urge you to book that next available date/time and then add yourself to the Waitlist for an earlier unavailable time.

I open my schedule 3 months at a time. As a mom of 2 young kids, I make adjustments as needed.

So, schedule that appointment first! Then, if you wish, add yourself to the Waitlist.
